Jet-powered UAVs, which Russia has been heavily using recently, attacked Sumy on Friday night. As a result, a fire broke out in a two-story residential building, according to the head of the Sumy City Military Administration, Serhii Kryvosheienko.

"As a result of one of the strikes in the Kovpakivskyi district, a fire was recorded in a two-story residential building. All consequences are being clarified. The attack is ongoing. Stay in safe places," the official wrote at 1:42 am Kyiv time.

Later, Kryvosheienko clarified that the massive drone attack on Sumy is targeting the city's civilian infrastructure and the residential sector in the Kovpakivskyi district.

Fires broke out at several locations. The threat of repeated strikes is hindering rescue operations.

"Preliminarily, two people were injured as a result of the enemy UAV strike on a two-story building," the head of the City Military Administration added later.

The Air Force had been reporting groups of drones, including jet-powered ones, heading in the direction of Sumy region since the evening of August 20.

Attack on Sumy

On August 20, large-scale emergency power outages occurred in the Sumy and Chernihiv regions. Problems with water supply were also reported in the Sumy region. The cause was emergency issues in the networks of the national power company Ukrenergo.

On August 17, Russian units attacked Sumy, killing two people and injuring one more. The residential sector and non-residential premises came under attack.

Earlier, on August 11, Russian forces struck Sumy with four guided aerial bombs. As a result of the attack, a man was killed, more than 20 private houses were damaged, and civilian infrastructure facilities were hit.
