August 17 attack on Ukraine
Russian forces launched another attack on port infrastructure in the Odesa region overnight on August 17. The attack damaged a civilian vessel sailing under the flag of the Republic of Togo.
Also, Russian forces attacked an energy facility in Chernihiv on August 17, leaving more than 10,000 subscribers in the city without electricity. According to local authorities and Chernihivoblenergo JSC, the energy facility was damaged, while power restoration crews will begin repair work once the security situation stabilizes.
Russian forces continued assault operations along several frontline directions in recent days, but no confirmed Russian advances were recorded.
In particular, on August 15 and 16, Russian forces attacked Ukrainian Defense Forces positions in northern Sumy region. However, according to the Institute for the Study of War (ISW), they made no gains in the area.
