Why cooperation with India and Modi's visit important for Ukraine: Explanation from political scientist
The visit of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Ukraine will help establish cooperation between the two countries in various fields, this was shared in a comment to RBC-Ukraine by Mridula Ghosh, Chair of the Board of the East European Development Institute and Associate Professor at the Department of International Relations at National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy.
She noted that India will provide Ukraine with humanitarian aid, which will be directed towards the development of local communities and the future reconstruction of Ukraine.
"Secondly, there's cultural cooperation. A lot has already been done in this direction, but this will now be a targeted four-year program," Ghosh explained.
According to the political scientist, the memorandum of cooperation in the fields of agriculture and pharmaceuticals, as well as on drug safety and control, are particularly important.
"Regarding the reports that India will focus on peace and mediation, I believe these issues were discussed, but they were not formalized in any documents. This doesn’t mean that the parties had disagreements. If there had been differing positions and a lack of understanding, these four documents wouldn’t have existed. So, in this regard, there is still some uncertainty, something unsaid. But perhaps, this is something that will come later," she emphasized.
Modi's visit to Kyiv
Today, August 23, for the first time in the history of bilateral relations, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Kyiv. He has already met with the Indian community and with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
During their meeting, Ukraine and India agreed on four documents for cooperation between the countries.
