The White House believes the negotiations to end the war in Ukraine were productive, but several differences remain, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said, according to Sky News.

Leavitt also said that a meeting between the US and Ukrainian presidents is not planned for this week.

She added that the updated plan will need to be presented to the Russian side again.

"There is a sense of urgency. The president wants to see this deal come together, and to see this war end," the White House press secretary emphasized.

Leavitt added that Trump is putting pressure on both leaders.

The President of the United States wants this deal to "come together as quickly as possible," she said, commenting on Donald Trump's deadline for approving the peace agreement. Earlier, he had mentioned November 27 as the date.

When asked whether the issue of Russia's war against Ukraine was raised during Trump's conversation with Chinese leader Xi Jinping, she replied that they did. Still, the primary focus of the discussion was US–China relations.

What changed after the Geneva talks

Earlier, the US delegation in Geneva observed strong readiness on the part of the Ukrainian side for a constructive discussion. Therefore, strict deadlines for approving the peace deal, such as November 27, are unlikely to remain relevant.

According to the source, the next step in the negotiations will be determined by the American side after reviewing the results of the Geneva talks. Only then will it become clear when a phone call or an in-person meeting between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and US President Donald Trump may take place.

What changed in the peace plan after the Geneva negotiations and what is expected this week is detailed in the RBC-Ukraine report.
