The US at the Geneva talks observed a strong willingness on the part of Ukraine for a constructive discussion — so strict deadlines for approving a peace agreement, such as November 27, are now unlikely to be relevant, according to an informed source.

"The US saw Ukraine’s complete readiness to cooperate, meaning there’s no need to pressure them with any deadlines. And the meeting itself was extremely productive. The head of the delegation, Andriy Yermak, managed to ease the initial tension that had been on the Americans’ side," the source said.

According to him, the next step in the negotiations will be determined by the US after reviewing the results of the Geneva talks. Only then will it become clear when a phone call or an in-person meeting between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and US President Donald Trump might take place.

US peace plan

Last week, it was reported that the United States had prepared a peace plan to end Russia’s war against Ukraine, consisting of 28 points.

The original version of the plan envisaged that Ukraine would make a number of concessions. In particular, this included transferring control of the Donetsk region to Russia, abandoning plans for NATO membership, and reducing the size of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

To adjust this plan, the Ukrainian delegation met with the US side in Geneva.

As a result of the negotiations, the parties managed to agree on modifications to the US peace plan.

According to Oleksandr Bevz, advisor to the head of the Office of the President, some points were removed from the plan, and others were revised.

At the same time, according to sources cited by the Financial Times, the peace plan now consists of 19 points, rather than 28 as it did previously.
