Ukraine is holding negotiations with the United States on economic and defense agreements, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said during a conversation with journalists.

According to Zelenskyy, Ukraine also wants to propose a free trade agreement to the United States.

"There will be relevant meetings. I can say that they'll happen this week — well, I'm already telling this to the journalists. But I won't reveal the format for now. We're planning for it to take place in the US, where we'll raise exactly these two issues," the president said.

He said that he had discussed a weapons supply agreement with US President Donald Trump.

"Yes, weapons supplies to Ukraine. We want to buy them. This is an agreement, not a gift. These are important matters, and important meetings will take place in the United States. I'm also expecting a meeting with representatives from many of our partners' teams, including the American team — I'm waiting for them in Kyiv," he emphasized.

US assistance to Ukraine

In early May, it was reported that the US State Department had submitted a notification to Congress for a license to export weapons to Ukraine worth at least $50 million. This marked the first approved arms sale contract under Donald Trump's presidency. However, no new military aid packages have been recorded since his return to the White House.

In addition, the United States recently approved a support package for the operation of F-16 fighter jets in Ukraine, valued at approximately $310 million.

Furthermore, the United States approved the transfer of over 200 missiles from Germany to Ukraine.
