Vast majority of NATO countries consider Ukraine's membership irreversible - Deputy Prime Minister
The vast majority of NATO countries support the irreversibility of Ukraine's accession to the North Atlantic Alliance. They remain committed to the decision of the Washington Summit, stated by Ukraine's Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration, Olha Stefanishyna, according to Ukrinform.
Stefanishyna was asked whether NATO allies allow for any concessions on Ukraine’s membership in the Alliance in the context of possible future negotiations on ending the war.
In response, the minister recalled that on January 29, another meeting of the Ukraine-NATO Council took place, where the results of the Alliance’s Washington Summit were reviewed and priorities for 2025 were outlined.
"I cannot name all the countries right now, but the absolute and overwhelming majority of allies emphasized the decisions of the Washington Summit, stating that Ukraine's NATO membership is irreversible. I also stressed that this is a joint decision of the Ukraine-NATO Council, and it applies to all parties involved in this process," Stefanishyna emphasized.
Ukraine's NATO accession
Ukraine is awaiting an invitation to join NATO from its Western allies, but this has not yet happened. In particular, Germany and the United States oppose it.
At the same time, Polish President Andrzej Duda supports the invitation, stating that it would be a step toward real security guarantees for Ukraine.
Recently, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy also emphasized that Ukraine’s NATO membership is the cheapest security guarantee for the West.
