US Vice President J.D. Vance said the US sees a key step to resolving the situation in Ukraine as reaching an agreement based on the current line of contact between Ukraine and Russia. However, such a deal is unlikely to satisfy either side, reports the Clash Report.

Vance confirmed plans to find a resolution to the conflict aligned with the current line of contact in Ukraine.

"What do I think is ultimately going to come out of this? Look, it's actually very simple. If you take where the current line of contact between Russia and Ukraine is, we're going to try to find some negotiated settlement that the Ukrainians and the Russians can live with, where they can live in relative peace, where the killing stops," he said.

Vance admitted the peace terms probably won't make either Ukrainians or Russians "super happy." Both sides will likely be dissatisfied with such an agreement.

"It's not going to make anybody super happy. Both the Russians and Ukrainians, probably at the end of the day, are going to be unhappy with it," he concluded.

US Ambassador to NATO Matthew Whitaker said there will be no territorial concessions in the Ukraine war without a fight. He was responding to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's comments.

On August 8, US President Donald Trump announced a planned meeting with Russian dictator Vladimir Putin. He did not rule out territorial concessions during the talks. In response, Zelenskyy posted a video statement on August 9, declaring Ukraine would not give up its territories to Russia.

Media reports say that during a meeting with US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff, Putin allegedly agreed to a ceasefire if Ukraine withdrew troops from the Donetsk region. Later, it emerged that Witkoff may have misunderstood Putin. The discussion was actually about Ukraine pulling forces out of the Kherson and Zaporizhzhia regions.
