USA to begin deploying long-range weapons in Germany in 2026
The United States of America will begin deploying long-range strike systems, including hypersonic weapons, in Germany starting next year, according to the White House website.
According to the report, the United States will begin episodic deployment of long-range fire systems of its operational-tactical group in Germany in 2026. This will occur as part of the planning for the long-term deployment of these systems in the future.
Specifically, SM-6, Tomahawk, and hypersonic weapons, which are under development and have significantly greater range than current ground-based fire systems in Europe, will be deployed.
"Exercising these advanced capabilities will demonstrate the United States’ commitment to NATO and its contributions to European integrated deterrence," the statement said.
Potential war between Russia and NATO
Since the beginning of the war in Ukraine, Western countries have been concerned that Russia might invade NATO territory. However, NATO officials dismiss this possibility, stating that they do not see such a threat in the near future.
Notably, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has previously indicated that the next targets of Russian aggression could be the Baltic states, Poland, or the Balkans.
Meanwhile, NATO has already developed a defense plan in case of a potential Russian attack, but the military alliance is still striving to enhance its capabilities. According to German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius, Russia could potentially attack NATO by 2029.
