US weapons supply to Ukraine halted, official responsible named

US military aid to Ukraine was halted based on a memo from the US Deputy Secretary of Defense, according to The Wall Street Journal.
In his memo, Elbridge Colby highlighted the critically low stockpiles of weapons at the Department of Defense and stressed the need to prioritize resources for safeguarding US national interests.
He also emphasized the importance of refocusing American military capabilities on deterring China.
Although the memo did not include a direct order to halt aid to Kyiv, it became one of the key factors influencing the decision.
It later emerged that US President Donald Trump had not been informed about the Pentagon’s intent to suspend arms deliveries to Ukraine.
Suspension of US military aid to Ukraine
In early July, several Western media outlets reported that the US had halted deliveries of precision-guided munitions and Patriot air defense missiles to Ukraine.
The Trump administration said the decision was made to reassess stockpile levels due to declining inventories.
According to the media, the pause was triggered by a shortage of interceptor missiles for Patriot systems.
The final order to halt the weapons supply to Ukraine was reportedly given by Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, without informing Congress or President Trump.
Following a phone call with President Zelenskyy, Trump announced an increase in US military supplies to help defend Ukraine against Russian attacks.
He has already unveiled a new military aid package worth hundreds of millions of dollars.
Republican Senator Lindsey Graham also announced a record influx of US weapons to Ukraine and warned of severe consequences for Putin.
