The framework agreement between the US and Russia on ending the war, discussed in Western media, does not align with Ukraine's interests, according to an informed source.
According to the source, among the 28 points of the agreement are territorial issues — Ukraine would have to recognize the Russian-occupied territories, including Crimea. Another point involves limiting long-range capabilities so that Ukraine would not be able to strike Russia.
It appears that this so-called framework agreement was drafted by the US together with Putin’s special envoy, Kirill Dmitriev, who is reportedly "satisfied" with it.
At the same time, Ukrainians, according to the source, will not be satisfied with such an agreement. The interlocutor also noted that President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is already facing "significant pressure" from the US regarding this matter.
What is known about the so-called new plan
Today, Western media outlets Reuters and Financial Times revealed some of the 28 points of the so-called framework agreement to end the war in Ukraine.
In particular, Ukraine would have to:
-
Give up the Donbas
-
Renounce certain types of weapons
-
Agree to a reduction in US assistance
-
Agree to halve its army
-
Grant Russian the status of an official state language
-
Provide official status to the "local branch" of the Russian Orthodox Church.
According to the media, the US has indicated to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy that Kyiv must accept the Washington-prepared framework for ending the war with Russia.
Rumors of a new peace plan emerged recently. Reports suggested that the US and Russia were discussing the development of a framework agreement.
Later, it became known that this framework agreement is backed by US presidential envoy Steve Witkoff and Putin’s envoy Kirill Dmitriev.
The so-called proposals were developed without Ukraine’s participation. According to the media, an American delegation led by Army Secretary Dan Driscoll has already arrived in Kyiv to present the US position to President Zelenskyy and persuade him to resume peace negotiations with Russia.
