US pledges full NATO defense after Russian drones hit Poland

Acting US Ambassador to the UN Dorothy Shea stated that the US is ready to defend NATO territories after Poland shot down Russian drones that violated its airspace, according to the US State Department.
She emphasized that Washington will defend every inch of NATO territory and support its allies in the face of alarming airspace violations.
She noted that Russia has intensified its bombing campaign in Ukraine, causing human casualties and damage to civilian infrastructure.
Shea noted that these actions, as well as Russia’s deliberate or inadvertent violations of a US ally’s airspace, demonstrate a profound disregard for the US’ diligent efforts to end the conflict.
“The Russia-Ukraine war needs to end. We cannot risk it escalating into a broader conflict. Russia must demonstrate its seriousness by taking immediate, concrete steps toward peace,” the diplomat said.
Nearly 50 UN member states condemned Russia’s intrusion into Polish airspace on the night of September 10. The statement was read by Poland’s Deputy Foreign Minister Marcin Bosacki at the start of an emergency UN Security Council meeting.
Poland and the signatory countries called on Russia to immediately cease its aggressive war against Ukraine, refrain from further provocations, and respect its obligations under the UN Charter.
Ukraine’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Andriy Melnyk, stated at the Security Council meeting that Moscow’s escalation poses a threat of global war. He emphasized that if these actions go unanswered, Russia will not stop at Poland.
