Ukraine’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Andriy Melnyk, stated at a Security Council meeting that Moscow’s escalation poses a threat of global war, according to the UN’s YouTube broadcast.

Melnyk emphasized that it was a deliberate decision by Russia to cross yet another red line and test the patience of the international community.

According to him, if these actions go unanswered, Russia will not stop at Poland.

He said that the next day, it could be drones or even missiles falling on other European countries, and that the day after, something might accidentally cross the Atlantic.

In his view, it is the Security Council’s duty to prevent such a scenario before it is too late. If the Council does not stop this new phase of escalation, the world will be on the brink of a Third World War.

Melnyk urged UN member states to implement coordinated sanctions to suppress Russia’s war machine, cut off its supply chains, and stop the flow of components for drones and missiles.

On the night of September 10, Russia carried out a large-scale attack on Ukraine, with some drones entering Polish airspace.

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk reported that 19 drones were in the airspace that night, but only four were successfully shot down.

Nearly 50 UN member states condemned Russia’s intrusion into Polish airspace on the night of September 10. The statement was read by Poland’s Deputy Foreign Minister Marcin Bosacki before the start of an emergency UN Security Council meeting.

Poland and the signatory countries called on Russia to immediately cease its aggressive war against Ukraine, refrain from further provocations, and comply with the obligations enshrined in the UN Charter.
