White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt stated that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy does not acknowledge the realities of war and is attempting to receive aid without expressing gratitude. The United States will no longer finance the conflict without achieving peace, Fox News reports.

Leavitt emphasized that the new US administration is no longer willing to unconditionally finance the war and now seeks to achieve a lasting peace.

She noted that during Zelenskyy's meeting with US President Donald Trump in the Oval Office, tensions arose because the Ukrainian leader was unable to accept the realities of the war.

"We are no longer going to write blank checks to war very far away without real, lasting peace. And that is what the president wants," she said.

Leavitt also accused Zelenskyy of not showing enough gratitude for US support and claimed that his actions led to the failure of an essential economic agreement. She stressed that President Trump remains committed to peace negotiations, but Zelenskyy needs to change his approach to reach a deal.

The press secretary clarified that Trump made it clear that the situation is complicated due to Zelenskyy's willingness to compromise and that the US president will not back down when it comes to protecting American interests.

Conversation between Zelenskyy and Trump

On February 28, during an official visit to Washington, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with US President Donald Trump at the White House. During their discussion, a dispute arose regarding the possibility of signing a peace agreement and ending the war in Ukraine.

Trump asserted that Ukraine cannot win the war, that the Ukrainian Armed Forces are running out of soldiers, and urged Kyiv to cease hostilities. He also expressed his intention to cut US arms supplies to Ukraine if peace is not achieved.

The American president insisted on signing a peace agreement with Russia, threatening to withdraw from the process if this did not happen. Zelenskyy replied that Russia was not fulfilling the signed documents, and the agreement on rare earth elements had not been signed.

Later, in an interview with FOX News, Zelenskyy explained the reasons behind the conflict during the negotiations.

Regarding Senator Lindsey GGraham'sGGraham'sonthat Zelenskyy should consider resigning following the White House incident, Zelenskyy firmly stated that only the people of Ukraine have the right to decide on his resignation.

In a later conversation with journalists, Trump remarked that Zelenskyy had overplayed his hand during negotiations and that, in order to resume dialogue, Ukraine must demonstrate a willingness to pursue peace.
