US may announce package of aid to Ukraine exceeding $8 billion tomorrow - Reuters
The US is planning to announce military aid to Ukraine amounting to over $8 billion. This announcement may take place tomorrow, September 26, during President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s visit to Washington, Reuters reports.
According to anonymous sources from the news agency, the administration of US President Joe Biden is engaged in urgent negotiations with Congress to allow the use of $5.6 billion in military aid for Ukraine by September 30—the end of the federal fiscal year when the authorization powers expire.
Additionally, another portion of the aid will involve allocating $2.4 billion under the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative, which allows the administration to purchase weapons for Ukraine from companies rather than taking them from US military stockpiles.
Furthermore, during today’s press briefing, Pentagon Deputy Spokesperson Sabrina Singh stated that Ukraine will receive all the aid that was approved before the end of President Joe Biden's term. "I don’t have anything to announce right now, but I can tell you that we are committed to making sure that Ukraine gets the resources Congress approved," she said.
Zelenskyy's visit to the US
This week, the Ukrainian president began his official visit to the United States. Earlier, Zelenskyy stated that he would present his own victory plan for Ukraine, which is closely linked to US military assistance.
According to him, this plan includes a series of solutions to be implemented by the end of this year.
