‘We’re liberating Ukrainian territory’: Ukraine’s Army Chief tells about hottest frontline directions

The hottest frontline sectors in the east of Ukraine remain the Pokrovsk, Dobropillia, and Novopavlivka directions. The enemy is also increasing pressure in the northern Donetsk region, particularly in the Lyman direction, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reports.
“I spent the day on a working visit to the units carrying out combat missions in the Donetsk region. The hottest directions remain Pokrovsk, Dobropillia, and Novopavlivka. The enemy is also stepping up pressure in northern Donetsk, in the Lyman sector,” the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Syrskyi, said.
According to Syrskyi, Ukraine’s Defense Forces are engaged in heavy defensive battles against outnumbering Russian forces, holding back their assaults and, in some areas, conducting active counteroperations.
“I had productive discussions with brigade and corps commanders to obtain as detailed and objective information as possible about the battlefield situation and command structures. Based on these reports, I made the necessary decisions to strengthen defensive resilience,” the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine added.
Syrskyi also emphasized that the Armed Forces of Ukraine remain capable of carrying out their assigned tasks.
“We are defending and liberating Ukrainian territory. Units in the Donetsk region receive comprehensive support and reinforcements to achieve this,” concluded the Commander-in-Chief of the AFU.
Ukrainian troops advance in Donetsk region
Earlier reports indicated that over the past two weeks, Ukrainian forces cleared several settlements in the Donetsk region and inflicted significant losses on the enemy in personnel and equipment.
According to the General Staff, from August 4 to 17, Ukrainian troops fully cleared the villages of Hruzke, Rubizhne, Novovodiane, Petrivka, Vesele, and Zolotyi Kolodiaz. In the battles, Russian forces lost nearly 1,000 soldiers killed, over 350 wounded, and 37 captured.
In addition, in the past 24 hours, from August 19 to 20, Russian troops lost another 920 soldiers on the front. Ukrainian forces also destroyed a tank, four armored vehicles, numerous artillery systems, drones, and other military vehicles of the Russian army.
