The US Department of the Treasury has announced sanctions against two individuals and five entities profiting from money laundering and the import of petroleum products into Houthi-controlled areas of Yemen, according to a statement from the Treasury's press office.

According to the US Treasury, the Houthis generate hundreds of millions of dollars annually by taxing fuel imports into the areas of Yemen under their control.

The US sanctions target five companies registered in Yemen and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), which are described as "are among the most significant importers of petroleum products and money launderers that benefit the Houthis."

"These networks of shady businesses underpin the Houthis' terrorist machine, and Treasury will use all tools at its disposal to disrupt these schemes," said US Deputy Secretary of the Treasury Michael Faulkender.

US sanctions against the Houthis

In January of last year, the United States imposed sanctions on key members of the Yemeni Houthis for supporting terrorist attacks targeting commercial shipping in the Red Sea.

In June 2025, the US introduced additional sanctions against ten individuals, vessels, and companies in an effort to block the flow of raw material revenues to the Yemeni Houthis, who have been regularly attacking commercial cargo ships in the Red Sea.
