US emphasizes need for reforms for Ukraine's NATO membership
For Ukraine to become a member of NATO, it is necessary to carry out appropriate reforms and fulfill security conditions. At the same time, the US position remains unchanged - Ukraine's place and future belongs in the Alliance, according to National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan.
However, according to him, there is still work to be done to get there, including reforms and security conditions.
Sullivan also notes that the main question is how to build a bridge from where we are now to Ukraine's eventual membership in NATO.
One of the important steps in this direction, according to the adviser, was the outcome of the Washington summit, including the institutionalization of a security support apparatus for Ukraine.
Sullivan also emphasizes that US President Joe Biden is trying to ensure long-term support for Ukraine.
On October 17, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy discloses details of his talks with US presidential candidate Donald Trump. During the conversation, Zelenskyy emphasized that Ukraine is facing a choice: either it will acquire nuclear weapons again or it will become a member of NATO.
According to the Ukrainian leader, Kyiv has decided to choose to join the North Atlantic Alliance as the main guarantee of its security.
At the same time, Bild, citing an anonymous source, reported that Ukraine could restore its nuclear arsenal if Russia starts aggression again after the current war ends.
