"We are aware of last night's attack on Kyiv, which resulted in numerous casualties, including the tragic death of a US citizen. We condemn those strikes and extend our deepest condolences to the victims and to the families of all those affected," Bruce said.

Attack on Ukraine on June 17

On the night of June 17, Russia carried out one of the most powerful attacks on Ukraine since the beginning of 2025. Kyiv, Odessa, Mykolaiv, Zaporizhzhia, and other regions came under fire.

According to official information, Russia launched at least 440 Shahed kamikaze drones, as well as at least 32 missiles, including Kh-101, Kinzhal, and ballistic Iskander missiles.

Despite the depletion of air defense systems, Ukrainian air defenses managed to shoot down more than 428 targets. However, in Kyiv alone, enemy strikes damaged over 20 sites. Destroyed were:

  • High-rise buildings

  • Kindergartens

  • Educational institutions

  • Administrative buildings

At least 14 people were killed and over 100 were wounded in Kyiv. It is also known that a US citizen died while in the capital during the attack.

RBC-Ukraine published a report from the capital, which endured a massive Russian attack.

Additionally, early this morning, Russian forces launched a massive strike on Odesa. Civilian infrastructure was targeted. Fires broke out in several locations.

Two people were killed and more than 20 were injured in the Odesa attack.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy called the attack another terrorist act by Russia and urged the international community not to ignore the scale of the crime.
