US authorizes Storm Shadow strikes deep into Russia - The Times
The United States has given Ukraine the green light to use British Storm Shadow missiles to strike deep into Russia. Britain has not yet officially confirmed the lifting of restrictions, reports The Times.
The newspaper notes that British Prime Minister Keir Starmer avoids commenting on the authorization to strike Russia with Storm Shadow missiles that were transferred to Ukraine. Starmer said that he was not going to go into the “operational details”.
Sources in the British Foreign Office told The Times that the turning point was the involvement of DPRK soldiers by Russia. This was seen as a serious escalation.
Downing Street interlocutors said there were very good operational reasons why the British government should be careful what it says so as not to give Putin a strategic advantage on the battlefield.
However, Starmer began to back away from cautious comments, hinting that it was only a matter of time before Storm Shadow missiles could be used in Ukraine.
The Times, citing senior government sources, reported that Starmer's rhetoric was deliberate and hinted that previous objections to the use of Storm Shadows by the Americans had already been lifted.
At the same time, Starmer's allies believe that Storm Shadow missiles will not change the situation on the battlefield in Ukraine.
US authorizes ATACMS strikes against Russia
Recently, a number of Western media outlets wrote that US President Joe Biden had authorized Ukraine to strike Russia with ATACMS missiles. Later, the US officially confirmed that the White House had lifted the restrictions on Ukraine.
RBC-Ukraine's sources in military and political circles also reported that the UK and France have authorized the use of Storm Shadow/SCALP cruise missiles on Russian territory, but within the Kursk region.
It is known that this is the first time that Ukraine has fired US ATACMS missiles at Russian territory. Defense forces attacked a facility in the Bryansk region.
