The Pentagon specified that the main contractor for the equipment supply, repair, and maintenance of the howitzers will be BAE Systems.
In turn, the contractor responsible for transportation and cargo consolidation will be selected from among approved suppliers.
New mechanism for aid to Ukraine
Yesterday, Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal announced that the US and NATO have launched a new mechanism for providing military aid to Ukraine through the Prioritized Ukraine Requirements List (PURL) initiative.
"The goal of this mechanism is to ensure the rapid delivery to Ukraine of systems and weapons that can be obtained in large quantities from the United States, in order to strengthen Ukraine's positions and create conditions for achieving a just and lasting peac," he emphasized.
According to Shmyhal, the initiative is being implemented as part of agreements between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, US President Donald Trump, and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte.
This mechanism will allow NATO member countries and partners to finance the delivery of American weapons and technologies through voluntary contributions.
Incidentally, the Norwegian government also announced yesterday that Norway, along with Sweden and Denmark, will allocate $500 million to purchase US defense equipment for Ukraine.
