UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer and US President Donald Trump discussed next steps for reopening the Strait of Hormuz, according to the British government.

"The Prime Minister set out his discussions with Gulf leaders and military planners in the region on the need to restore freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, as well as the UK’s efforts to convene partners to agree a viable plan," the British government says in a statement.

Starmer and Trump agreed that now that a ceasefire is in place and an agreement has been reached to open the Strait, all interested market players are moving on to the next stage of finding a solution to the energy crisis.

Trump and Starmer’s relationship soured

Earlier, The Telegraph reported that Donald Trump had begun referring to Keir Starmer as a "loser" with no future in private conversations. This occurred against the backdrop of disagreements over the war with Iran.

In one interview, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy called on Trump and Starmer to meet to find common ground and reconcile.

Disagreements over the war with Iran led to talk in the US of withdrawing from NATO. In response, Starmer promised to prevent the United Kingdom from being dragged into the war.

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer was warned that his relationship with US President Donald Trump is likely beyond repair.
