The US position on the issue of authorizing the Ukrainian Armed Forces to conduct long-range strikes against Russia has not changed. Washington will continue to provide Ukraine with the assistance it needs to protect its territory, stated the US Permanent Representative to NATO Julianne Smith during an online briefing for journalists.

Smith commented on the possibility of a change in Washington's position on long-range Ukrainian strikes on Russian territory.

"I see that we still are at the same place where we've been, and that is that we will get Ukraine all the assistance that it needs to defend its territory," she emphasized.

She also pointed out that Ukrainian defenders have been very successful in using the weapons provided by Western countries, including in Crimea and “multiple other locations.”

Restrictions for Ukraine

Over the past few months, Ukraine has been trying to persuade its partners to reconsider restrictions on the use of long-range missiles. Such weapons are provided to Ukrainian defenders by the United States, Britain, and France.

Ukraine explains the need to lift the restrictions by saying that it will be able to attack Russian military targets located several hundred kilometers from the border.

But so far, neither the United States, Britain, nor France have given their permission.

Recently, Deputy Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on National Security, Defence and Intelligence Yehor Chernev said in a commentary to the RBC-Ukraine YouTube channel that the allies may decide to lift restrictions on the future Ramstein meeting, but the announcement will be made later.
