Ursula von der Leyen comments on lifting sanctions against Russia: Is it possible?

It is too early to discuss the potential lifting of European sanctions on Russia. First, Russia must demonstrate with concrete actions that it really seeks peace, stated European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen during a meeting with the media following the Support Ukraine plenary session.
She emphasized that sanctions have had a significant impact on the Russian economy.
Ursula von der Leyen stated that it is becoming clear that discussions about sanctions would only be possible if Russia demonstrates its desire for peace through concrete actions. She emphasized that there must first be tangible evidence of Russia's commitment to achieving peace.
According to her, there is currently no long-term peace agreement, making it too early to consider the potential lifting of sanctions on Russia.
Von der Leyen added that this conversation can only take place after specific steps from the Russian side are observed.
