The European Union is already working on its 17th package of sanctions against Russia. Today, foreign ministers discussed strengthening military assistance for Ukraine, according to the statement of EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas during a press conference of the EU Foreign Affairs Council.

"Nobody in Europe wants the war to continue, and nobody in Europe wants a war less than Ukrainians. They want peace on their territory. That is why we have to be really strong against the aggressor and achieve peace through strength. Today, we adopted important decisions, we adopted the 16th package of sanctions that includes several items. And we continue to work on the 17th package," she stated.

According to her, the foreign ministers of European countries discussed new initiatives to strengthen military assistance for Ukraine. The details will be determined during the extraordinary European summit on March 6.

"We have to put Ukraine in a position of strength. So that Ukraine is able to say 'no' to a bad deal," Kalas emphasized.

The 16th package of sanctions against Russia targets key sectors of the Russian economy. This extensive package consists of 83 measures, including 48 individuals and 35 organizations responsible for actions that undermine or threaten Ukraine’s territorial integrity, sovereignty, and independence.

Kaja Kallas stated that this new round of sanctions is aimed not only at Russia’s shadow fleet but also at those who support the operation of dangerous oil tankers, video game controllers piloting drones, banks circumventing sanctions, and propaganda media spreading lies.
