During the night of 27 November, a series of explosions was heard in Novokuybyshevsk in Russia's Samara region, where the city was attacked by unidentified drones. According to Astra, the likely target of the strike was the local oil refinery.
Astra analyzed eyewitness videos and determined that the flashes following the attack on Novokuybyshevsk in the Samara region last night occurred directly above the local oil refinery.
The Russian outlet writes that the footage filmed from Michurina Street shows at least three flashes.
"In the air at an altitude of about 1.5 km, above the horizon but still in the air — most likely the work of air defense systems again, south of the Novokuybyshevsk refinery (the distance from the filming location to the explosion is more than 3.5 km), as well as a bright glow at the very end — directly on the territory of the refinery," the Telegram channel reports.
Local authorities have not yet commented on the attack.
Novokuybyshevsk oil refinery
The Novokuybyshevsk oil refinery in the Samara region is one of the largest Russian refineries, with an annual processing capacity of nearly 9 million tons of crude oil.
The facility produces more than 20 types of petroleum products and supplies fuel, including jet fuel, to the Russian military. Explosions and a fire were recorded in the target area, and the scale of the damage is still being clarified. The refinery is owned by Rosneft Oil Company.
Attacks on the Novokuybyshevsk oil refinery
This oil refinery has repeatedly been the target of Ukrainian strikes. The most recent attack took place during the night of November 16, and it was confirmed by the General Staff.
Before that, on the night of October 19, the facility was also hit. After that strike, the refinery was forced to halt its primary oil processing operations.
Another strike on the Novokuybyshevsk refinery occurred on August 28, when a large fire broke out on the premises.
The most serious damage to the refinery occurred on March 10, 2025, when the attack led to a temporary shutdown of operations. As a result of the strike, a key primary oil processing unit, CDU-11, with a capacity of 18,900 tons per day, was damaged.
