In Rovaniemi, a passerby noticed a drone flying over a hydroelectric power plant and called the police. The incident took place in a zone where a no-fly restriction is in place, according to YLE.

Last week, an unidentified drone flew over the Valajaskosken hydroelectric power plant in Finland.

Police confirmed the drone flight in response to an inquiry from local journalists but did not disclose details of the investigation.

The company that owns the hydroelectric plant, Kemijoki Oy, noted that the station's video surveillance did not record the drone operator.

Since August 2025, all power plants in Finland have been declared no-fly zones. Drone flights are strictly prohibited there due to the security of the energy infrastructure. Nevertheless, the incident showed that violations are still possible.

Unidentified drones "attacking" Europe

It should be recalled that on the night of September 26, suspicious drones were spotted in the skies over the Karlskrona archipelago in Sweden, where the country’s main naval base is located.

The activity of unidentified drones began on September 10, when about 20 Russian drones entered the airspace of eastern Poland.

On September 22, Copenhagen Airport suspended operations due to a similar incident involving unidentified drones.

Drones were also seen over the Mourmelon-le-Grand military base in northeastern France.

On the night of September 25, drones were spotted over airports in Aalborg, Esbjerg, and Sønderborg in Denmark, as well as over the Skrydstrup Air Base. Because of this, Aalborg Airport suspended operations.

In addition, unidentified drones were observed in northern Germany, over Schleswig-Holstein.
