UN records over 100 executions of civilians in occupied territories of Ukraine
The United Nations reported more than a hundred cases of Russian executions of civilians in the occupied territories of Ukraine.
UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk said that Russian troops are committing war crimes in the occupied territories of Ukraine. They are trying to torture and ill-treat detainees, and there are cases of disappearances.
According to Türk, the UN has identified "142 cases of summary execution of civilians since February 2022, in territory controlled by Russian armed forces or occupied by the Russian Federation. On occupied territory, we have documented widespread torture and ill-treatment of detainees, including sexual violence, as well as large numbers of enforced disappearances."
In addition, the Russian Federation has repeatedly refused to take adequate measures to protect civilians and protected civilian objects from the consequences of their attacks.
Crimes committed by Russians in the occupied territories of Ukraine
Earlier we reported that the UN recognized war crimes committed by Russians during the full-scale war in Ukraine.
We also wrote that the UN found new evidence of Russia's war crimes in Ukraine. In particular, Russia is destroying civilian objects, raping and deporting children to Russia.
In early December, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that more than a hundred thousand violations of the law and customs of war by the Russian occupiers had been documented.
