Ukrainian top official on Japan's decision to export weapons abroad: 'Historic moment'
Japan's decision to export domestically produced weapons abroad is a historic moment, states the Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, Oleksiy Danilov, during a national telethon.
"Historically, after World War II, Japan adopted domestic legislation that prohibited the export of weapons produced in Japan. Currently, we are witnessing a historic moment as Japan re-enters this market. Legislative decisions are currently being made that Japanese weapons can be present in other countries around the world," noted Danilov.
According to him, the involvement of Japan as a major industrial country in the creation of regional institutions is crucial.
"It is a very powerful industrial country, a country with significant industrial potential. Involving it in joint processes for the protection of democracy would be absolutely relevant," emphasized the Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council.

The media reported that on December 22, the Japanese government will update instructions regarding the export of defense products. This will enable the country to supply its domestically produced weapons abroad.
This primarily involves missiles for the Patriot anti-aircraft system. The National Security Council of Japan plans to approve the delivery of Patriot missiles to the United States later this year.
Japan will not be able to transfer weapons to warring countries, such as Ukraine or Israel. However, this will provide the United States with more opportunities to continue supplying Ukraine with domestically produced weaponry.
