Lawyers from the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine are studying mechanisms for terminating the contract and recovering funds, states the head of the press and information department of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, Ilarion Pavliuk.

"We will recover them; we are already working on it. It was a contract for which payment was made, but no deliveries were made. Lawyers are studying the mechanisms for properly terminating the contract and returning the funds," Pavliuk said.

Ilarion Pavliuk also thanked his colleagues from the Security Service of Ukraine (SSU) and the Prosecutor General's Office because, in his words, this is an extremely important case where the anti-corruption mechanisms of the Ministry of Defense worked.

"When we, together with the Security Service, identified and, further, in joint actions, the people who conducted this embezzlement found themselves in handcuffs. This is a joint success," said the head of the press and information department of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.

Scandal involving procurement of munitions for the Ukrainian Armed Forces

On December 22, it became known that the Security Service of Ukraine (SSU) and the Ministry of Defense exposed and eliminated a scheme for purchasing artillery shells for the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) worth nearly 1.5 billion hryvnias.

The participant in the scheme unreasonably extended the validity of the previous agreement with the specialized exporting company. After extending the old contract, nearly 1.5 billion hryvnias were transferred to the foreign intermediary firm. This cost 30% more than direct supplies.

It was also reported that Ukraine's Minister of Defense, Rustam Umerov, explained how the Ministry of Defense would combat unfair procurement for the army.
