Ukrainian intelligence hackers inflict over $800,000 damage on Russian internet provider, sources

One of Siberia's largest Internet providers, Orion Telecom, lost 66 million rubles as a result of a special operation by the cyber corps of the Defense Intelligence of Ukraine (HUR), sources say.
This became known from a statement to the Russian police, which the provider submitted following the attack.
The intelligence service reported that the attacked provider itself acknowledged its losses of 66 million rubles, as well as the fact of leakage of users' personal data as a result of the operation by HUR.
In this regard, Orion Telecom is asking the Russian police to open a criminal case.
In addition, according to Russian law, the provider will also likely have to pay a hefty fine for the data leak — up to 15 million rubles.
Cyber experts from HUR attacked Orion Telecom's infrastructure back in the summer on the so-called Russia Day, paralyzing the provider's operations that day.
In particular, the closed city specializing in uranium mining was left without communication, as Orion Telecom was the only provider there.
That same morning, local public groups in Krasnoyarsk, Irkutsk, Bratsk, and Abakan were flooded with complaints from dissatisfied Russians reporting a lack of internet and television.
Sources note that the provider's networks were actively used by Russian security forces to carry out aggression against Ukraine.
Cyberattacks against Russia
In September, cyber experts from the HUR carried out a large-scale attack on the digital infrastructure of the Russian national payment system SPB and the provider TransTeleCom.
HUR hackers also attacked one of the largest private Internet service providers serving Russian security forces.
In addition, HUR specialists carried out a cyberattack on a number of Russian resources. This happened on the Defense Intelligence of Ukraine Day.
