Ukrainian Foreign Minister visits Hong Kong, calls to close Russia's ways to bypass sanctions
Today, July 25, Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba visited Hong Kong as part of his visit to China, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.
During the visit, the head of the department met with John Lee, Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR). The parties discussed new opportunities for trade and investment in the context of Ukraine's recovery.
During the conversation, Kuleba also called on the Hong Kong administration to take measures to prevent Russia and enemy companies from using the SAR to circumvent sanctions.
“The Ukrainian Foreign Minister emphasized that these restrictive measures are necessary to weaken Russia's potential to wage war and kill people in Ukraine. The Minister emphasized that Russia's machinations should not spoil Hong Kong's reputation as a highly developed liberal economy based on unwavering respect for the rule of law,” the Foreign Ministry added.
In particular, the parties discussed the protection of the rights of Ukrainian citizens in Hong Kong.
Later, Kuleba met with representatives of Hong Kong business.
Kuleba's visit to China
On July 23, Kuleba arrived in China at the invitation of his Chinese counterpart, Wang Yi. There, he discussed Russia's war against Ukraine, as well as bilateral relations between Kyiv and Beijing.
According to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Kyiv received a signal that China supports Ukraine's territorial integrity and sovereignty.
