During a meeting with his European counterparts on November 20, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha described the new US peace plan as unworkable, according to Politico.

During a closed meeting of European Union Foreign Ministers, Sybiha told his colleagues that Russia dictated the terms of the new US proposals. Therefore, this plan is simply impossible to implement.

"The bottom line is that any peace plan is not doable if it is based on appeasement of the aggressor. This could only bring more war and brutality to Ukraine and all of Europe," he says.

Europe dissatisfied

The agency notes that the US plan greatly disappointed Europeans, who believed that US President Donald Trump had finally understood that Vladimir Putin should not be trusted.

"The US proposal has triggered alarm in European capitals, in part because they were completely cut out of the process of drafting it, and mostly because, in the view of one official, it amounts to nothing more than Putin’s wishlist," the article says.

Officials and diplomats in both Kyiv and Europe were extremely annoyed by Washington's latest attempt to impose a bad deal on Ukraine. One of them called the US plan just a list of items to satisfy Putin.

"Of course, this is worrying, but we need to stick to our position. If Russia gets away with it, it’s only a matter of time before we see more Russian aggression in Ukraine, but also into EU and NATO member states," says another official.

Another US peace plan

The US peace plan, which became known a few days ago, contains 28 points and provides for the transfer of part of the Donbas territories to Russia in exchange for providing Ukraine and the EU with long-term security guarantees, reducing the Ukrainian army, abandoning long-range weapons, etc.

Most of the points are unacceptable to Ukraine and Europe. The White House has not confirmed or disclosed any details, but says that the plan has the support of President Donald Trump.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reviewed the proposals during a visit by a US delegation to Kyiv. On the afternoon of November 21, he began discussing the plan with European leaders, who are currently actively preparing their own version of a peace plan.
