The modern battlefield is defined by attack drones, with a strike range of up to 10 kilometers. Under such conditions, rapid evacuation of the wounded, as well as the development of logistics and military medicine, becomes crucial, said Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces Oleksandr Syrskyi.

"We must see the war through the prism of the needs of the Ukrainian infantryman, to preserve his life and health," he emphasized during a meeting on the medical support of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

According to Syrskyi, all identified problems must receive concrete solutions immediately.

Innovative technologies in military medicine

During the meeting, the 106th Separate Territorial Defense Brigade's experience was presented. There, medics use portable Field Medical Consult (FMC) complexes for remote consultations between hospital doctors and service members performing combat missions.

This system allows for secure online consultations, with the transmission of data from electrocardiography (ECG), dermatoscopy, ultrasound, and otoscopy, in cases where there is a significant distance between the front line and hospitals or medical institutions with specialized experts.

Syrskyi noted that the first batch of equipment has already been delivered to military units and has shown effective results. The gained experience is planned to be scaled up by introducing new technological solutions, including the digitalization of medical documentation and the use of robotic systems for the evacuation of the wounded.

Work is also underway to digitalize the accounting of medical assistance provided to the personnel of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

"First and foremost, we must work to preserve the lives and health of the defenders of Ukraine who hold the front," the Commander-in-Chief summarized.

Medicine in the Armed Forces of Ukraine

Earlier, the Ukrainian government allowed soldiers without medical education to perform blood transfusions. To do this, they must undergo appropriate training.

Syrskyi had also previously approved the creation of a separate medical unit in Ukraine. This will enable scaling the provision of medical assistance in combat zones at the organizational level.

Combat medics work on the front line under harsh conditions. Some of them do not have formal medical education, yet every day, under shelling and with weapons in their hands, they evacuate wounded Ukrainian soldiers.
