Progress is being made in negotiations to end Russia’s war against Ukraine. They have advanced further than ever since the start of the conflict, states UK Defense Secretary John Healey, according to the UK Ministry of Defense on Twitter (X).
Healey noted that over 2025, Ukraine’s partners have pledged £50 billion (around $66.5 billion) in aid to Ukrainian defenders within the framework of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group.
According to the minister, the conflict between Russia and Ukraine is now entering its most critical phase. US efforts to achieve peace are "moving forward."
"Yesterday in Berlin, there were signals of progress in the peace talks, which is further advanced than at any time during this war," the official said.
He also emphasized that the UK continues to allocate funds to train its troops and armed forces in order to "be ready for deployment when peace comes, with forces on the ground and jets in the air."
At the same time, Healey stated that the West still needs to step up and provide Ukraine with even more assistance to pressure Russian President Vladimir Putin into reaching an agreement and to protect peaceful Ukrainians from attacks by Russia during the winter.
Progress in Berlin
Recently, talks were held in Berlin between Ukrainian and American officials. The dialogue included Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, US President’s Special Envoy Steve Witkoff, and US President’s son-in-law Jared Kushner.
After the talks, an unnamed American official told Western media that Ukraine and the US had agreed on "90%" of all issues.
He also claimed that US President Donald Trump was satisfied with the outcome of the talks.
New meetings between Ukrainian and American officials are expected over the weekend.
