Ukraine has successfully tested a missile called Ruta. It can reach speeds of 500-800 km/h, the Ukrainian news and analytical portal Defense Express reports.

According to media sources, Ruta looks like a cruise missile or a jet drone. It is actually known publicly under the Ukrainian name and is the result of the work of the startup Destinus.

Despite the limited information available about Ruta's technical characteristics, it is a jet drone with a flight range of 300 km. Its tasks include strike, reconnaissance, or serving as a target for training. Later, the company published fairly detailed images of its products on its website, including this "drone," which looks like a traditional cruise missile.

"Moreover, a schematic of the construction was shown, illustrating all Ruta's main components - the warhead, fixed wing, fuel tank, electronics unit, and small-sized turbojet engine," Defense Express writes.

In addition, the general description notes that the Ruta missile is launched with a rocket booster and has a low cost for its size, payload, and speed, although the specific values of these parameters have not been disclosed.

"Yet, the development is positioned as a drone that can carry various payloads, such as reconnaissance equipment, with the capability to return and land via parachute," Defense Express states.

At the Eurosatory 2024 exhibition, a sample with a slightly different design was shown, which could very well be a 1:1 scale mock-up.

"This means that the warhead weight is likely in the range of tens of kilograms, possibly closer to a hundred, considering the range of up to 300 km," analysts add.

Thus, as summarized in the article, the main advantage and capability of the Ruta drone is its high-speed flight at 500-800 km/h, which reduces the effectiveness of Russian mobile fire groups and completely excludes helicopters from the Russian "anti-drone" air defense.

Earlier, on December 10, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that Ukraine had successfully tested the new domestically produced Ruta missile. In addition, the production of other missiles continues.

Also, the Ukrainian Defense Forces recently received the first batch of Peklo missile drones, which President Volodymyr Zelenskyy handed them.
