The administration of US President Donald Trump has approved the first weapons packages for Ukraine under the PURL program, and "they are already on the way." The Ukrainian side considers this an extremely positive signal, according to Western media and Ukrainian MFA spokesperson Heorhii Tykhyi.

What is known about deliveries under PURL

In particular, today senior NATO official Patrick Turner confirmed to Reuters that the first batches of weapons purchased under the new financial agreement with allies are already being delivered to Ukraine.

"Four packages under the Prioritized Ukraine Requirements List (PURL) have already been financed, and equipment is already arriving," he said.

What is being said in Ukraine

As of the evening of September 17, the Ukrainian side has not yet confirmed the start of deliveries.

However, according to MFA spokesperson Heorhii Tykhyi, it has been definitively confirmed that the Trump administration approved the first packages. He also noted that the needs are "high and will remain high." Therefore, Ukraine is counting on the continuation of the mechanism under PURL.

"We believe this is a very good interaction, mutually beneficial. Beneficial for us, for European partners, for the United States," Tykhyi added.

He also noted that the embassy confirmed information about the approval of the military aid packages.

"I spoke yesterday with our embassy in the United States, which indeed confirmed that such information exists, that these decisions have been made. So, in fact, we have information not only from the media," the MFA representative said.

Tykhyi also stated that Kyiv is counting on the fastest possible delivery of military aid.

Earlier media reported that US President Donald Trump's administration approved the first two packages of military aid to Ukraine, financed by NATO under PURL.

PURL mechanism

The PURL mechanism (Prioritized Ukraine Requirements List) is a US and NATO initiative aimed at accelerating the delivery of weapons to Ukraine.

Within this program, Ukraine compiles a list of priority weapon needs, which is then submitted to NATO. After that, allies finance the purchase of American weapons from the provided list.

The funds are transferred to a special NATO account, and the weapons are purchased directly from the United States. In this way, the program ensures rapid and targeted support for the Ukrainian army.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy recently stated that he expects European countries to allocate €1 billion per month for the purchase of American weapons under the PURL mechanism.
