Ukraine and the US are striving to achieve results in ending the war and establishing peace in the country. Progress so far has been limited, but the process continues, states Ukraine’s Ambassador to the US, Olha Stefanishyna.

The ambassador said that it was quite clear that both sides - Ukraine and the US - were seeking results, and added that Ukraine had made every possible effort in terms of commitments to end the war and establish a just and lasting peace in the country.

She emphasized that Ukraine is holding numerous discussions with US counterparts regarding the potential scope of agreements.

Stefanishyna said that they were discussing further actions after the meeting in Moscow, as well as the next steps that could be taken, and added that there hadn’t been much progress, but the process was continuing.

The ambassador also added that the next meeting between the Ukrainian and US delegations in Florida, scheduled for December 4, will be a continuation of this process. Further comments can be made after National Security and Defense Council Secretary Rustem Umerov, who will represent Ukraine in the talks, meets with US representatives tomorrow.

Negotiations on the US peace plan

In November, the US presented a new peace plan to end the war in Ukraine. The initial version included 28 points, many of which were favorable to Russia.

For this reason, on November 23 and 30, consultations were held between the US and Ukrainian delegations to refine the document and make it more favorable for Kyiv. The first meeting took place in Geneva, the second in Florida.

On Tuesday, December 2, Trump’s special envoy Steve Witkoff and the US president’s son-in-law Jared Kushner arrived in Moscow to discuss the revised document with Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin and advance the peace process.

After the meeting, Putin’s aide Yuri Ushakov spoke to the press, stating that no compromise had yet been reached, but the parties are willing to continue working. He also noted that the US delegation had handed over four additional documents related to ending the war.

Ushakov’s statements were interpreted as indicating that Putin had rejected the US peace plan. However, the next day, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov claimed that this was allegedly not the case.

According to Reuters, Witkoff and Kushner reported to US President Donald Trump that the Moscow meeting had been productive. Details remain largely unknown, but Trump told journalists that, according to his envoy and son-in-law, Putin wants to end the war.

Additionally, according to the Associated Press, today, Thursday, December 4, Witkoff and Kushner will hold a new meeting with the head of the Ukrainian negotiation delegation, Rustem Umerov. The topic remains the same - continuing discussions on the peace agreement.
