American leader Donald Trump commented for the first time on the negotiations between the US delegation and Russian leader Vladimir Putin, which took place in Moscow. The meeting was successful, according to him.
Trump noted that the American negotiators - his special envoy Steve Witkoff and his son-in-law Jared Kushner - had a rather good meeting with Putin.
"I don't know what the Kremlin's doing. I can tell you that they had a reasonably good meeting with President Putin," said the head of the White House.
He also emphasized that the Russian dictator would like to end the war - at least, that was the impression of his representatives.
"He would like to end the war. That's what they ... that was their impression. Now, whether or not, you know, that was their appre, you know, their impression was that they'd like to he would like to see the war ended. I think he'd like to get back to dealing a more normal life," said the US president.
Trump stressed that Putin would prefer to trade with the US rather than lose thousands of soldiers every week, which is impossible if the war continues.
"I think it'd like to be trading with the United States of America, frankly, instead of, you know, losing thousands of soldiers a week, but their impression was very strongly that he'd like to make a deal. We'll see what happens," said the head of the White House.
Negotiations in Moscow
As we reported, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner briefed Trump on the meeting in Moscow regarding the settlement of the war, which took place the day before, but the US side did not disclose details for security reasons.
The next step in advancing the peace plan will be a meeting between the Ukrainian delegation and US representatives, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said, calling the negotiations productive.
The Kremlin also commented on the meeting with Witkoff and Kushner. Putin’s aide, Yuri Ushakov, stated that no compromises were reached at the meeting regarding the settlement of the war. He added that there are points in the peace plan that Russia is ready to agree to, but there are also points that are unacceptable to the Kremlin.
