The Ukrainian delegation is preparing for a meeting in the US with representatives of US President Donald Trump, according to an address by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
"After the American team returns from Moscow and holds the necessary consultations in Washington, Rustem Umerov, Andrii Hnatov, and everyone needed for the negotiations will continue the conversation with President Trump’s representatives," Volodymyr Zelenskyy said.
According to the Ukrainian president, there is constant contact among all partners and between the partners and Ukraine, so in the coming days, the Ukrainian team expects updates regarding meetings, contacts, and negotiations.
"Everything is moving quite productively now — at the meetings in Geneva and in Florida, Ukraine was heard and listened to. And this matters. We expect it will continue this way. Only by taking Ukraine’s interests into account is an honorable peace possible," Volodymyr Zelenskyy emphasized.
He expressed confidence that the world now clearly feels that there is a possibility of ending the war, and therefore, the increased diplomatic activity must be supported by pressure on Russia.
"Everything depends on this combination — constructive diplomacy plus pressure on the aggressor. Both components work for peace," the head of state said.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy noted that Europe’s effective participation in defending Ukraine, as well as in ensuring security after the war, is crucial at this stage.
"The level of activity is maximum in order to end the war. And from our side — from the Ukrainian state — there will be no obstacles or delays. We are fully constructive, very quick in our work with partners, and everyone notes this — the American side as well," the president said.
Meeting between Umerov and EU national security advisers
It became known that on Wednesday, December 3, National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine (RNBO) Secretary Rustem Umerov held a meeting with national security advisers from Germany, France, Italy, Poland, Finland, and the United Kingdom, with representatives of the EU and NATO also present.
Umerov noted that he briefed his colleagues on the progress of the negotiations in Geneva and Florida, and emphasized the need for Europe to "remain an active participant" in this process, including in shaping future security guarantees.
Meanwhile, Ukraine’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Andrii Sybiha reported that the Ukrainian negotiating team was invited to visit the US after the US President’s special envoy, Steve Witkoff, met with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
