Ukraine's UN representative outlines how to prevent consequences of Russian terror in Ukraine
As long as the Russian Federation undermines the trust and integrity of the Security Council, it will feel free to kill innocent people in Ukraine and beyond, states Ukraine's Permanent Representative to the UN, Sergiy Kyslytsya.
Kyslytsya highlighted that on the night of December 29, the aggressor destroyed a maternity ward, educational institutions, a shopping center, 45 multi-story residential buildings, private houses, two churches, commercial facilities, and warehouses, as well as a parking lot on Ukrainian territory.
"Given the reports on a Russian missile intruding into the air space of Poland during the Russian strike, we reiterate that Russian air terror poses a dangerous threat not only to Ukraine but to the neighbouring countries as well. The only way to prevent its spillover effect is to continue supporting Ukraine by further strengthening our defence capacities," Kyslytsya emphasized.
The representative of Ukraine added that as long as Russia is capable of eroding the trust and integrity of the Security Council, it will freely continue killing innocent people in Ukraine and beyond.
Massive shelling in Ukraine
On Friday, December 29, Russian invaders launched the most extensive attack on Ukraine since the start of the full-scale war. A total of 158 enemy targets were released across Ukraine, with Ukrainian air defense forces successfully intercepting and downing 114 objects.
U.S. President Joe Biden strongly condemned the Russian shelling of Ukraine, stating that Putin is attempting to destroy Ukraine, and he must be stopped.
During an emergency UN meeting, the U.S. accused Russia of deliberately diverting the UN Security Council's attention away from the current events by raising issues related to the decade-old Euromaidan protests in Ukraine. This diversion occurred while Moscow was preparing for the most extensive missile and air strike on Ukrainian cities.
