Ukraine believes in a positive outcome from peace talks with Russia, which are currently taking place alongside ongoing frontline combat, according to Presidential Office head Kyrylo Budanov.

Expectations from diplomacy

Despite widespread skepticism about the dialogue, the head of the president's office remains hopeful of success, emphasizing that a positive outcome from the talks would be a victory for Ukraine and pave the way for the country's development.

"I do believe in them. No matter how skeptical many are. And I hope we will achieve success," he said.

Preparations, levers of influence

Budanov stressed that the process involves more than just the president's office. Ukraine currently has clear calculations and action plans for various scenarios.

"This will mean further development for Ukraine, an end to bloodshed, and a future for our state," he added, hinting that Kyiv still has a few arguments to exert pressure on Russia.

Previously, Budanov stated that Ukraine will not cede its territories for the sake of peace. He emphasized that territorial integrity is a fundamental issue and cannot be negotiated.

He also highlighted that his main objective in the talks is to ensure Ukraine's strategic advantage and create conditions in which Russia will be forced to accept fair terms for ending the war.

Furthermore, international partners are strengthening Kyiv's position. For example, the US has gained additional leverage over Russia in the negotiations, which could influence the Kremlin's stance.

Recently, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Russia must end the war, as it is depleting its resources and cannot sustain this pace of confrontation indefinitely.
