The Foreign Ministry reacted to statements by US Vice President JD Vance about alleged Ukrainian interference in elections in Hungary and the United States, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Heorhii Tykhyi told journalists at a press conference.

The Foreign Ministry explained: these words were voiced in the context of an election campaign and should not be given too much weight.

What the Foreign Ministry spokesperson said

Tykhyi urged to watch the press conference in full, rather than relying on individual quotes from Telegram channels.

"First of all, I urge you to listen to the entire press conference where this was said, because yesterday we also initially saw anonymous messages in Telegram channels," he said.

According to him, journalists at that press conference several times tried to provoke Vance into making sharp statements. However, he responded neutrally.

Kyiv does not dramatize

The Foreign Ministry acknowledged that a certain phrase was indeed said.

"Regarding the phrase that was voiced, we understand that it happened within the framework of an election campaign. We do not attach any excessively risky emotional coloring to it," Tykhyi stressed.

He also noted that there were no separate contacts with the Americans on this matter – both Washington and Kyiv are currently occupied with more important matters.

"Frankly speaking, we do not overburden this statement with significance, and once again I urge you to watch it in full – then it will become obvious that these words did not come from the mouth of the US president," the spokesperson added.

Earlier, during a visit to Budapest, Vance accused Ukrainian intelligence of trying to influence election results in Hungary.

He also supported Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán ahead of parliamentary elections and compared him to Trump, calling both peacemakers.

Recently, a film was released in Hungary about Orbán's pressure on voters. In attempts to influence the results, the government of the Hungarian prime minister does not shy away from drugs.
