Ukraine’s Foreign Minister hopes to meet with new US State Secretary soon
The Head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Andrii Sybiha, would like to meet with the new Secretary of State of the United States of America Marco Rubio in the short term, Sybiha says during a joint press conference with the Foreign Minister of United Kingdom David Lammy.
"Unfortunately, as of today, I do not have confirmation of a conversation with Marco Rubio, with my American colleague. I am waiting for such confirmation and hope that this conversation will be held in the short term. I do not have information about Mr. Rubio's participation in the meeting in Paris, but if Mr. Rubio is present at the Munich Conference, I expect to meet with him as part of his stay and participation in the Munich Conference," the Minister said.
In particular, he added that a meeting of the heads of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the member states of the European Union will take place next week. In particular, he received an invitation from his French colleague Jean-Noël Barrot to attend it.
As Sybiha explained, these meetings are extremely important, since during them the issue of supporting Ukraine to achieve a just and sustainable peace is raised.
"They (meetings, - ed.) are about specific decisions on how to strengthen our resilience and our defense capability. They are very frank, they are substantive, and they focus on all security aspects related to security both in the region, both extra-sanctions security and the security of Ukraine," the Minister noted.
Marco Rubio
Rubio was confirmed as the new Secretary of State on January 21. Later, he argued that neither Kyiv nor Moscow would likely be able to achieve their maximalist goals as a result of the war.
In particular, the US Secretary of State recently stated that the war was setting Ukraine back 100 years. In response, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy invited him to visit Ukraine to raise awareness of Russia's crimes.
