US Secretary of State Marco Rubio believes that Ukraine is being set back 100 years. He once again said that the Russia-Ukraine war should end with negotiations, and both sides must make concessions. US high-ranking official made such a statement in an interview with American journalist Megyn Kelly.

"What the dishonesty is that we somehow let people to believe that Ukraine would be able not just to defeat Russia, but destroy it, push it all the way back to what the world looked like in 2012 or 2014," Rubio said.

The US Secretary of State claimed that this situation supposedly led to the funding of a "stalemate" over the past year and a half.

"Meanwhile, Ukraine is being set back 100 years. Their energy grid is being wiped out. Someone is going to pay for all this reconstruction after the fact, and you know how many Ukrainians have left Ukraine, living in other countries now. They may never return. That is their future, and it's endangered in that regard," Rubio noted.

The Secretary of State also emphasized that US President Donald Trump's position is that this is a "protracted conflict" that needs to be resolved through negotiations, once again highlighting that both sides would need to make concessions.

"That`s going to be the work of hard diplomacy which is what we used to do in the world in the past and we were realistic about it, but both sides in the negotiations need to give something," Rubio concluded.

Trump administration's stance on ending war in Ukraine

This is not the first time Rubio made such remarks about ending the war in Ukraine. Previously, the Secretary of State noted that President Donald Trump's administration aims not only to end the Russia-Ukraine war but also to prevent it from happening again within 2-4 years. Rubio also mentioned the necessity of mutual concessions from both parties involved in the conflict.

Furthermore, President Donald Trump himself repeatedly expressed his desire to find a swift resolution to the war. Before returning to the White House, Trump claimed that he could end the war within 24 hours or even less. However, after his election, he refrained from repeating this "24-hour" promise.

Recently, US Special Envoy for Ukraine and Russia Keith Kellogg mentioned his intention to find a resolution within 100 days of Trump's inauguration.

Experts predict that a conversation between President Trump and Russian leader Vladimir Putin regarding the end of the war could take place in the coming months. Signals of readiness for negotiations have already been expressed by both Washington and Moscow.

However, Putin continues to issue ultimatums. As a result, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has warned that Putin is not prepared for diplomacy. Therefore, Ukraine requires a strong position, which can be ensured by the US and other allies.
