Ukraine's FM answers Orbán after statement on Ukraine’s EU and NATO membership comments

Hungary, which does not want to belong to organizations alongside Ukraine, will have to leave dozens of integration formats, said Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha on X.
In response to a statement by Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, Sybiha reminded that there are many integration formats in which Hungarians and Ukrainians are already included together.
"The United Nations, Council of Europe, WTO, IMF, CEI, EBRD, Danube Commission, OPCW, IAEA, FAO, and dozens more. Viktor Orbán, so Hungary intends to leave them all, right?" Sybiha's post reads.
Recently, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán said that Hungary refuses to join certain organizations alongside Ukraine, including NATO and the EU. He suggested creating a strategic alliance with Ukraine instead of integrating it into existing blocs.
"The Hungarians would not like to belong to the same integration format, even a military one like NATO, or a political-economic one like the European Union, with the Ukrainians," Orbán stated.
Blocking Ukraine’s EU accession
Orbán may find support for his refusal to back Ukraine’s EU membership, particularly from French President Emmanuel Macron.
The European Union is also considering a temporary way to bypass Hungary’s veto in accession talks. The European Commission has proposed adjusting rules to begin technical work on several clusters even without a formal decision.
This step would allow reforms and alignment of Ukrainian and Moldovan legislation with European standards to move forward.
Earlier, RBC-Ukraine reported that according to the Spring 2025 Eurobarometer, 60% of Europeans support granting EU candidate status to Ukraine, while 34% oppose it.
