Support or fatigue? Eurobarometer reveals Europe's stance on Ukraine aid

Russia's war against Ukraine remains the most important issue for European citizens. According to Eurobarometer, Europeans approve of supporting Kyiv and imposing sanctions against Moscow.
In the face of Russian aggression against Ukraine, 80% of respondents across Europe agree with accepting into the EU those fleeing the war.
Additionally, three-quarters of Europeans (76%) support providing financial and humanitarian aid to Ukraine.
At the same time, 60% approve granting Ukraine candidate status for EU membership, while 59% agree with EU funding for purchasing and delivering military equipment to Ukraine.
Russia's invasion of Ukraine continues to be considered the most important issue at the EU level (27%) among 15 topics. It is followed by the international situation (24%) and security and defense (20%).
Furthermore, 77% of European respondents agree that Russia's invasion of Ukraine is a threat to EU security.
Also, 72% of EU citizens support economic sanctions against the Russian government, companies, and individuals.
The Standard Eurobarometer (spring 2025 edition) was conducted from March 26 to April 22, 2025, in all 27 EU member states. A total of 26,368 EU citizens were interviewed face-to-face. Interviews were also conducted in nine candidate and potential candidate countries (all except Ukraine) and the United Kingdom.
Over the past year, Ukrainians' optimism regarding Western support in the war with Russia has increased. Most believe in continued substantial support, but only from Europe, not the United States.
According to a survey by KIIS, 82% of Ukrainians believe that Ukraine should continue fighting even if the United States completely stops all support.
