Ukraine's FM explains why ceasefire is proposed for only 30 days

Ukraine has agreed to a 30-day ceasefire, as it may pave the way to ending the war with Russia. However, this does not mean freezing the conflict, according to Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha on Facebook.
He stated that in the joint statement with the United States, Ukraine took a proactive step, proving that it is ready to move toward a just end to the war.
"Ukraine does not stand in the way of peace; it is a partner in its restoration. This is what happens when allies speak openly, sincerely, and substantively," the foreign minister added.
Sybiha clarified that the proposal concerns a 30-day ceasefire, which could be implemented if Russia agrees to such a step. The American side is currently discussing this issue with the Russians.
"Why is this temporary ceasefire important? Because it is by no means about a frozen conflict. It is solely an attempt to begin the path toward ending the war in a just manner. It is also a step that shows who is truly interested in peace," the foreign minister explained.
Ceasefire
During negotiations with the United States in Saudi Arabia, Ukraine agreed to a proposal for a 30-day ceasefire with Russia.
At the same time, the joint statement of both countries states that this arrangement could be extended if both Kyiv and Moscow agree.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy assured that if Russia agrees to the truce, "the silence will take effect immediately."
