Ukraine and the European Union discussed strengthening defense cooperation, including military training and the provision of critically needed equipment for the armed forces, stated Ukrainian Defense Minister Denys Shmyhal.

"I held an important meeting with the Chairman of the EU Military Committee, General Seán Clancy," Shmyhal said.

According to him, during the meeting, they discussed the current security situation, operational challenges, and prospects for further defense cooperation with the European Union.

"Representatives of Ukrainian intelligence provided partners with comprehensive information about the situation on the front line, the plans of Russian occupying forces, and the state of the Russian defense-industrial complex. Together, we analyzed further steps to strengthen Ukraine's defense capabilities on the battlefield," the minister added.

Shmyhal noted that special attention was given to the EUMAM training mission, and together with General Clancy, they assessed its results.

"The training of Ukrainian troops shows high effectiveness. We discussed the possibilities of further expanding this mission. We will continue to develop the direction of personnel training and preparation," the minister stated.

At the same time, he outlined the priority needs of Ukraine’s Defense Forces:

  • scaling up interceptor production

  • FPV drones

  • long-range unmanned aerial vehicles

"Ukraine highly values the practical support of the European Union in strengthening our defense capabilities. Together we are reinforcing the security of not only Ukraine but the entire European continent," Shmyhal added.

He thanked General Clancy and all EU partners for their leadership, solidarity, and strategic vision.

"We continue working together toward a shared victory and lasting peace in Europe," he concluded.

On July 25, it became known that earlier this week, Ukraine received a new Patriot air defense system. Reports indicate that this system was part of prior agreements with Germany.

Meanwhile, yesterday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that Ukraine currently has agreements for three Patriot air defense systems out of the ten it needs.
