The Ambassador of Ukraine to the EU, Vsevolod Chentsov, was urgently recalled to Kyiv. He is expected to arrive tomorrow, July 16, according to informed sources.

A source speaking to the outlet links this urgency to changes in the government.

Government changes

Sources told RBC-Ukraine that as part of the government reshuffle, Vice Prime Minister and Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration of Ukraine, Olha Stefanishyna, will leave her position.

There have also been media reports that she may become Ukraine’s representative in one of the European countries.

A major government reshuffle is expected this week. The new prime minister is anticipated to be First Vice Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko.

At the same time, the current head of the Cabinet, Denys Shmyhal, will take the position of Minister of Defense. The prime minister has already submitted his resignation.

According to RBC-Ukraine sources, Iryna Mudra, Deputy Head of the Office of the President, or Herman Halushchenko, Minister of Energy, are being considered for the post of Minister of Justice.

If Halushchenko does become Minister of Justice, then the Ministry of Energy may be headed by the current Minister of Ecology, Svitlana Hrinchuk.

As explained by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the significant transformation of the executive branch will help "reduce the costs of maintaining the state apparatus, ensure substantial deregulation, and direct the maximum available resources to the defense of Ukraine."
